2008 winner of the Frank A. Beach Award, Dr. Hans Hofmann.

Dear SBN Members,
It is my pleasure to announce the 2008 winner of the Frank A. Beach Award, Dr. Hans Hofmann.  Dr. Hofmann is currently Assistant Professor in the Integrative Biology Department and a Fellow of the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas/Austin.  He received his PhD in 1997 from the Max-Planck Institute in Seewiesen, Germany, and the Department of Zoology at the University of Leipzig, working with Drs. Franz Huber and Klaus Schildberger.  He studies the molecular and endocrine underpinnings of social behavior within an evolutionary framework, and he is one of the founders of behavioral genomics. He uses numerous cellular and molecular techniques, bioinformatics, as well as field work in East Africa, to study African cichlid fishes. His work has been published in top journals of different fields, including Nature, PNAS, J Neuroscience, J Neurobiology, Animal Behavior, BMC Genomics, Genomics, Molecular Ecology, ProcRSoc, and Endocrinology.  In July, 2007, he was appointed an Editor of Behavioral Ecology, the leading journal in that field. There were many very well qualified nominees for the award this year and we are indebted to Elaine Hull and her committee for making this tough decision. Thank you !
