Transmission Electron Microscopy

Instruments:
Philips EM 208 Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)

A 100kv instrument with excellent contrast at medium magnifications and sub-nanometer resolution with the right specimens. Besides data-rich film output, the scope is also fitted with an AMT Advantage HR 1MB digital camera. This camera is fast enough for smooth stage translations for serial section imaging, is sensitive at low illumination, and has FFT assistance for easier focusing and astigmatism compensation.

Access and Training:

The microscopy facility provides assisted use and training for this instrument.

For assisted use, contact John Mendenhall to schedule an initial consultation. We will work with you to develop and experiment that is both technically feasible and meets your scientific needs.

For information about training, stop by the Microscopy Facility Office (1.426 H) and pick up a training request form. Each trainee must attend a 6(+) hour training course. Training courses are generally given twice a semister, depending on demand. Once training is complete the trained user will be given an unassisted access to the instrument.

Location:
