Leica TCS 4D Confocal Microscope
Instrument:
Leica TCS 4D

The Leica 4D confocal microscope can be used for fluorescence imaging of a variety of biological and materials samples. This instrument provides high resolution images using a variable pinhole for optical "z" sectioning and laser scanning.
Available objectives are shown below, with additional (high resolution) magnification is available with through digital zoom. A Kr/Ar mixed gas laser, a UV laser and DIC optics in an inverted microscope allow three channels to be monitored simultaneously at high resolution. The lasers supply the excitation wavelengths 354/361nm(DAPI, Hoechst, Calcofluor), 488 nm (FITC,GFP), 568 nm (rhodamine) and 647 nm (CY5).
Objectives:
10X dry (PL FLUOTAR 0.3NA)
20X dry (PL APO 20x/0.70NA)
40X oil (PL FLUOTAR 1.0-0.5NA)
100 X oil (PL APO 1.4-0.7 NA)
The microscopy facility provides only assisted use for this instrument.
For assisted use, contact a member of the microscopy staff to schedule an initial consultation. We will work with you to develop and experiment that is both technically feasible and meets your scientific needs.
For information about training, please check out our newer confocal the Leica SP2 AOBS.
