AB 7900HT PoliciesAB 7900HT Policies

The AB 7900HT Sequence Detection System (real-time PCR) machine is available for sign up on the Core Calendar.  To access the calendar go to http://146.6.133.14 and login to or create an account with dnaLIMS if you do not already have a sequencing account.  The following are the policies pertaining to the use of the AB 7900HT.

General Info:
1.  You must have a BioSci account to login to the 7900HT computer.
2.  The 7900HT takes plates only.  NO tubes.
3.  Use either flat caps or optically clear adhesive tape.  NO domed caps.
4.  Do not write anywhere on the plate or cover.  Markers can contaminate the machine!!!
5.  Do not train anyone to use the 7900HT.  New users must see Lindsay or Cecil for training.

Billing:
1.  Billing is $10 per hour.  We bill in ½ hour increments.  If you sign up for 3 hours, but only use 2.5 hour you will be charged for the full 3 hours.
2.  You must delete your time on the Core Calendar if you will not be able to run the machine.  We bill though the Core Calendar and will not credit your account if you forget to delete your reservation.  You will also be billed for time that you use and do not sign up for.  For example if you’re running 30 minutes late and sign up for 2.5 hours, you will be charged for the full 3 hours.
3.  You will be charged $10 if you fail to delete a sign up time prior to 1 hour of your scheduled run time.
4.  If you are more than 30 minutes late you will be charged $10 and will need to reschedule your run.

Data Storage:
1.  The DNA Core Facility is not responsible for your saved data.
2.  The DNA Core Facility will make every effort to save at least a week’s worth of data on the hard drive of the 7900HT.
3.  If you have a problem with data storage, discuss this with Lindsay or Cecil as soon as possible.

Machine Problems
1.  If the 7900HT errors out and you lose data, you will not be charged for the run. 
2.  We can not replace reagents for failed runs, even if it is caused by an instrument failure.
3.  If the 7900HT errors out during normal business hours, please contact Lindsay or Cecil.  After business hours please leave a message at 475-7844 and put a note on the 7900HT.
4.  If the machine requires an unexpected service call all reservations during the repair time will be cancelled.  It is the individual’s responsibility to reschedule time on the 7900HT.
5.  If you directly cause a 7900HT machine failure, you will be responsible for the repair if it is not covered under the service contract (ie-wrong plate type, contaminate the block, change out block wrong, etc)
