Phosphor Screens: The DNA Facility has small (20 X 25 cm) and large (35 X 43 cm) phosphor imaging screens for researchers to borrow. These screens allow the indirect measure of a radioactive signal from a gel or membrane. Samples are exposed to a phosphor screen and the excited state of the phosphor is read by a laser.
New Policy for Screens: There have been numerous complaints about phosphor screens not being available. This problem has resulted in a new policy for checking out phosphor screens. (see policy outlined below). We have also added 10 small screens and 3 large screens. The new policy and the addition of the new screens should help.
Outline of new policy:
- You and your PI will have to sign the Phosphor Screen Policy to check out screens. Phosphor Screen Policy
- Screens must be checked out from DNA Sequencing Facility Staff.
- Screens must be returned or re-checked out within 3 days.
- Screen checkout can be extended for 3 days using the website: coreweb.icmb.utexas.edu
- There is a $5/day late fee for screens not re-checked out or checked in.
- If the total usage of screens total more than 60 days you will be charged a usage fee at $1/day for every day after 60 plus possible late fee charges.
- You can look on the our sequencing website to see if screens are available. coreweb.icmb.utexas.edu
